Healthy lifestyle 'can lower risk of depression'![]() Guys looking to stay fit and healthy could find they are at less risk of developing depression through leading an active lifestyle. According to Michelle Clemons, author of Transforming Stress to Success and a mindfulness-based master practitioner of Neuro Linguistic Programming, getting regular exercise and eating a good diet "play a huge part" in lowering the likelihood of an individual developing depression. This might prompt some gents to grab new pairs of mens support underwear, which could provide them with an all-important level of additional comfort when working out. "Mindfulness practices and meditation are also used to combat depression, anxiety and a variety of other mental and physiological health issues. Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction is now well respected as both a therapy tool and a spiritual practice," she said. Ms Clemons stated that getting the right levels of vitamin D and omega 3 is "vital" for fighting depression, adding that choosing fresh, organic foods is also a good idea, while processed goods should be avoided. Her comments follow the publication of research conducted by Dr Michel Lucas, from the Department of Nutrition at Harvard School of Public Health, showing that women who watched lots of TV were more likely to suffer from depression. The findings might encourage some to start making a little more effort to work out alongside their partner, something that could give both parties an added incentive to work hard and ultimately prove mutually beneficial. One man that might give other people the encouragement they need to start working out more is Mark Brown, who recently told Men's Fitness how the impact of his divorce caused him to stop working out. However, he noted that he managed to turn things around by setting himself new targets and ensuring that someone was looking out for him to keep him accountable.
